All hail the Jimmy Choos, Manolo Blahniks and Christian Louboutins! Somehow, a woman's attraction to shoes is like a man to football, that, or to boobs - you just can't have enough! And so, it comes as no surprise that a woman should possess at least an average of 20 pairs of footwear in her wardrobe, in different colours, shapes, designs and of course, height.
The funny thing is, in spite of a 4-digit price tag slapped on the shoe box of that pair of 3-inch rhinestoned stilettoes, these shoes don't last till next season's sale; almost immediately after the new arrivals hit the shores, they are already adorning the pedicured feet of some tai-tai. No kidding!
So where does that leaves me? Stopping short of an annual paycheck of half-a-million dollars, yours truly can only fantasize strutting in that pair of heels at the window display of the über-luxurious boutique at Palais Renaissance. All of a sudden, I feel like Cinderella.
But the conundrum between a woman's paycheck and her shoes does not end here just yet. Allow me to illustrate: the regular Steve Madden flats, the Beverly Feldman slip-ons, the Nine West heels or the typical Birkenstock sandals easily rings up a hundred bucks at the till. And my last example - even the ever-popular Havaianas rubber flip-flops is priced at S$39.90 a pair! Thus seemingly the average heartlander (well, that's you and me) is doomed to have more than a hole in her pocket.
Behold, yours truly rests her case with this wish: Dear Fairy-Godmother, can you give me a pair of glass slippers too? Either that, or turn me into a man.
