For somebody who talks to soft toys, it's no surprise that I would think that it is necessary to dress my soft toys - Teddy and Elmo. It's totally unthinkable that they should be lying around au naturel. So, for many years, I'd dressed Teddy and Elmo in polo tee and singlet respectively, which is kinda ironical too because they are butt naked.
Never good at Art or Home Economics at school (in fact, I was a G-10er), I figured this project is definitely going to be challenging, and maybe even trigger a few profanities (I suspect) as I attempt to machine a straight line, not to mention trying to make the cut pieces of denim resemble a decent piece of apparel, even if it's only meant for a piece of cotton wool.
So after a gruelling 4 hours (of sweat, literally) ...
The first stitch that I unpicked coz I thought I'd sewed the two pieces wrongly, but it turned out to be right, so I sewed the same hem (Argh).
Oh man, I'd underestimated Elmo's butt...I had no idea it's this huge!
the Nth fitting...
I figured if I'd been better at needlework, I probably would not have wasted so much fabric and thread.
Voila! The end product...
A close-up of Elmo's new overalls
(Psst: the right leg is one index finger wider than the left leg but I'm not going to alter it anymore...)
PS: And if you ever find yourself into teddy clothings one day, I'm sure you'll love Judy Martin's designs.
